Open call for CMEM annual awards: Facts and misinformation on climate change

The Council for Media Ethics (CMEM) invites journalists and media outlets to apply for the annual award that the self-regulatory body presents on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, May 3.

The topic for this year’s award once again relates to environmental protection: “Facts and Misinformation on Climate Change”.

The award for the articles, as well as for best photography, is presented with the support of UNESCO, within the framework of the project “Building Trust in the Media in South East Europe – Support for Journalism as a Public Good”, financially supported by the European Union.

The call for applications is open to all professional journalists and photo/video reporters in North Macedonia, for stories published in a registered media outlet, traditional or online, in the period between May 1, 2025 and April 15, 2026.

The criteria for the awards include an authentic and analytical articles, photo or video of broad public interest, which meets the highest ethical standards in journalism.

The submitted work can be in a different format or genre (text, TV report, radio story, documentary, reportage, interview, photo, video…) published in Macedonian or the language of the ethnic communities (with Macedonian translation/subtitles).

The best two stories and the best photo/video will be selected by a jury consisting of experienced media representatives, with the involvement of experts in the field of ecology.

The authors will be awarded with an individual cash amount of: 1200 USD (first prize), 800 USD (second prize) and 800 USD for the best photo/video.

Individual journalists and editorial teams may submit up to three (3) stories. The call is open until 15.04.2026.

Applications should be sent by e-mail to info@semm.mk with the subject line “For Journalism Award 2026” no later than April 15, 2026.

Applications should include a link to the media content, as well as an attached document from the text/photo/attachment in the message.
