High school and university students show skepticism toward media content

Young people lack significant trust in the media, consequently, they state that they primarily seek their sources of information on social media, even though they are aware that they may encounter misinformation anywhere. Between September and November 2024, The Council of Media Ethics of Macedonia (CMEM) held 10 workshops in high schools and universities across Macedonia. During these sessions, they engaged with youth regarding the necessity of verifying information received through various channels, the risks involved in sharing news, videos, or photos, journalistic ethics, and the importance of media self-regulation. Some of the participants—both high school and university students, noted that while they frequently recognize manipulation in media content, they still consider journalism to be an interesting profession with many challenges.

The project “Encouraging an Ethical Approach to Reporting Among Potential Young Journalists” is supported by the European Union as part of the broader initiative “Training Academy for Journalists and Media Workers T-AJM”.
