The Council of Media Ethics handled more than 40 press complaints of citizens

This new self-regulation body actively works for more than half a year already. The Press Complaints Committee have already handled more than 40 press complaints and citizens mostly complained about hate speech in the media, lack of second source in the story, defamation, insult and discrimination.

The work of the Council of Media Ethics was evaluated as positive and professional in the last Needs Assessment Report of the Media Councils in South East Europe by UNESCO.

UNESCO recommends measures for awareness raising of the public on the need of self-regulation in the media, as well as increased cooperation with the high education institutions and the judiciary.

The Council of Media Ethics was established in 2013. Its objectives are protection of media freedom, prevention of influence by the state, political parties and other centres of power over the media, as well as reduction of censorship and self-censorship in the media.
