Statement about the killing of journalists of the French magazine „Charlie Hebdo“

CMEM agrees with the assessment of the European Association of Journalists that the terrorist attack is a reminder that freedom of speech and information are under attack even in Europe, and that journalists are at risk of violent attacks because of their profession. Expressing condolences to the families of the victims, we stand by the international condemnation of the act of violence against French weekly magazine, perpetrated by those who aim to violate democracy and freedom of reporting as one of the fundamental rights.

We perceive the murder and the attack on journalists as an attack not only against the profession, but also against the progress of civilization.
