The wiretapping of journalists seriously violates freedom of expression and in such conditions the ethics of public informing is no longer an issue for discussion. This is totally unacceptable in a free and democratic society.
Journalists have the right to receive and publish information, while simultaneously exposing critical views. They are entitled to their opinion and belief, as well as its expression through the media. In their work, journalists should not be exposed to pressures and be forced to act contrary to their opinions or beliefs.
The Council believes that journalism as a profession has a major role in the protection of democratic values, and in the work of journalists it is necessary to create all conditions for informing the public in a fair, impartial and comprehensive manner.
