The way to protect the freedom of the media is not through ignoring abuses of media power, but with greater commitment for responsible and truly democratic media.
To reach such a freedom in the media, it is necessary to accept the mistakes and bad journalism. Irresponsible journalism is not only an embarrassment for owners, managers and editors in the media, but it also reduces public support for the journalism. It is in the interest of journalists themselves to promote ethical journalism and be first to examine unethical behavior both of the media and the public institutions.
The media freedom also brings greater responsibilities, especially in the newsrooms. We appeal to all media to exercise their power in a responsible and professional manner. In addition to supporting the rights of journalists to work freely and without obstructions, as a Council of Media Ethics we will continue to provide support and help citizens to avoid the harmful consequences of unethical and irresponsible media.
